Billy Napier admitted on Monday that Florida made too many mistakes at Tennessee to win the game, and that those mistakes were too much to overcome against a team of that caliber.
Napier said the Gators were prepared to compete and embraced the big stage that came with that game.
Napier was aggressive with his 2-point conversion attempts and explained why he decided to go for so them when he did. Napier said he had more questions about that decision after the game than anything else. He noted there’s a slight advantage for a home team, along with being a two-score favorite.
Napier explained the decision for the 2-point attempt when Florida trailed 38-27, and he cited percentages learned through analytics. Napier said “you go for 2 there on road, and if you get it, you’re down 9 with a chance to win with 2 scores. “You’re just declaring the path quicker.”
“I’ve got no issue with the decision,” Napier said. “… We got the right play, made the right decision, and this is one of those paths you go down, that a lot of people don’t understand. But we’re going to base our decision-making off of research, and evidence, and true facts. It is what it is.”
