Billy Napier responds to question about job security after Mississippi State win
Florida escaped with a narrow 23-21 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday night in Gainesville thanks to a late interception.
However, that win may not be enough to save Billy Napier‘s job. Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Florida‘s administration was considering a change as early as this weekend. The Gators have an open date coming up before facing rival Georgia in Week 10.
In his post-game press conference, Napier was asked multiple questions about his future as Florida’s head coach. Napier said he plans to celebrate this victory over Mississippi State and then deal with what comes next on Sunday morning.
“I’m gonna tell you something, I’m going to enjoy this one tonight,” Napier said. “I’ll wake up tomorrow and we’ll worry about what’s next … I know our group will be excited about the next one. I’m gonna take a deep breath, get something good to eat, prop my feet up on the house, hug on them kids and miss Ali and then tomorrow we’ll wake up and we’ll think about the next one.”
Here’s a clip of Napier’s comments:
With this win, Florida is now 22-23 overall and 12-16 in SEC play since Napier took over as head coach.
