Bob Stoops reacts to Oklahoma’s awful start, QB change against South Carolina

Bob Stoops coached in many big games and won many big games at Oklahoma. That’s why they called him “Big Game Bob” in Norman, even though some used the nickname in a sarcastic way when Stoops didn’t come through in a big game.

Anyway, on Saturday afternoon in Norman, Stoops was part of the Sooners radio broadcast for OU’s SEC battle with South Carolina. Needless to say, it wasn’t going well at all as Oklahoma fell behind 32-3 at halftime. The big problem (among many) for the Sooners in the 1st half was at quarterback, where freshman Michael Hawkins Jr. turned the ball over on each of Oklahoma’s first 3 possessions and was benched in favor of sophomore Jackson Arnold.

Things got out of hand quickly for the Sooners, who were trying to bounce back from last week’s embarrassing loss to Texas in the Red River Rivalry. Well, there was no bouncing back for OU and there was no end to the criticism by Sooners fans, and that included Stoops on the Oklahoma radio broadcast.

“This is unbelievable,” said Stoops.

And what about that QB change, Coach?

“I’m all for it,” he said.

With Oklahoma trailing big at halftime of Saturday’s fiasco in Norman, that means that Stoops had another half and then some to tell radio listeners what he really thought of the state of affairs at quarterback and in general with Sooners football.
