Brad Lawing, a former South Carolina defensive line coach, has passed away, his brother-in-law announced.
“He sure loved all of his family, friends, players and his coaching family. Please pray for our family,” Wayne J. Parris wrote on Twitter.
Lawing coached with some of the best head coaches in the country.
Lawing was an assistant at Florida State with Jimbo Fisher, Steve Spurrier at South Carolina, Nick Saban at Michigan State, and for one year with Mack Brown at Appalachian State.
He had 2 stints with the Gamecocks.
During his initial run with the Gamecocks from 1989-98, Lawing coached 3 future NFL players in Corey Miller, Gerald Dixon and Henry Taylor, and, as recruiting coordinator, signed defensive end John Abraham, who went on to be a 5-time Pro Bowler in the NFL.
He later coached 2014 No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney at South Carolina as well as fellow first-round picks Dante Fowler (2015, No. 3) and Dominique Easley at Florida (2014, No. 29), and Melvin Ingram (2013, No. 18) at South Carolina.
It saddens us to inform you that former #Gamecocks assistant coach Brad Lawing passed away late last night.
Lawing served as Carolina defensive line coach in two separate stints, 1989-1998 as well as 2006-2012.
