Brent Venables feels the love as fans, media react to impressive turnaround
Brent Venables made his mark on the Red River Showdown on Saturday.
Oklahoma left the Cotton Bowl with a huge 34-30 win over No. 3 Texas thanks to a go-ahead touchdown pass from Dillon Gabriel to Nic Anderson with 15 seconds to go.
This Oklahoma win felt good after the 49-0 blowout loss to Texas last season.
The game didn’t end there as Texas had one more shot to win the game with a hail mary. Quin Ewers was hit from behind while trying to heave the ball to the endzone and pass was knocked down by the Sooner secondary.
Venables had a rough start to his Oklahoma tenure after a 6-7 record in year one. Some people compared what Venables has done this season in Norman to that of Deion Sanders at Colorado.
Oklahoma fans are going to enjoy this win for a while, but Venables will probably like it more. There were some doubts about the former Clemson assistant heading into the year and things are looking good heading into Week 7.
Here are the reactions from Oklahoma fans to the win:
Brent Venables Sooners just did a Deion – they went from losing 49-0 to Texas last year … to winning 34-30 this year. #BoomerSooner

It was a rocky ride for Brent Venables in Year 1 at Oklahoma, but unless a coach inherits an unquestioned Cadillac roster in his first season, waiting for Year 2 is the appropriate thing to do.
Venables figured things out. Everyone in Norman can now fully believe.

One of the biggest winners in College Football this year is Brent Venables. Left for dead after last season, now Oklahoma is playoff contender and Clemson is a mess. Huge day for him.
