Bret Bielema previews Florida A&M season opener, talks J.J. Watt’s Hurricane Harvey fundraising
Bret Bielema spoke to the media during the SEC’s first weekly media teleconference of the 2017 season Wednesday. During his segment of the call, Bielema discussed the Razorbacks opening season game on the eve of the game, J.J. Watt and the money he has helped raise, as well as the season opening matchup against the Rattlers.
The Arkansas-Florida A&M game kicks off Thursday at 8:00 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
Here are the highlights from Bielema’s call:
- First and foremost, we have so many players from the greater Houston area. Thoughts and prayers to everyone there.
- We will travel to Little Rock tonight and stay there in anticipation for the game.
- on J.J. Watt’s fundraising campaign in Houston (raised close to $6 million so far): I follow JJ on Twitter, I think the first goal was $500,000 and it’s not surprising. The environment he comes from, his father is a firefighter, his mom runs his foundation. It’s not all about football with his family.
- Devwah Whaley’s family, from Texas, is currently displaced due to Hurricane Harvey.
- How will Whaley handle that going into his first start: He’s very mature, why he had success last year was because of his talent but also his physical demeanor.
