Brian Kelly announces ‘Million Dollar Match’ program on LSU NIL donations
Brian Kelly is making a significant gesture as LSU takes a step forward in its NIL efforts.
Kelly and his wife, Paqui, have pledged to match all donations to LSU’s Bayou Traditions Football Fund through Feb. 5, 2025, up to $1 million. Kelly is prohibited by rule from directly donating to LSU’s NIL collective, so the donation will instead be made to the Tiger Athletic Foundation’s AD’s Excellence Fund.
“LSU has a long and proud tradition of being one of the elite programs in college football,” Brian Kelly said in a statement. “In order to remain among the nation’s elite in this new world of college athletics, we have to be competitive in all areas of our program. I am committed to doing all that we can to win championships at LSU.
“While we are not permitted to financially support our NIL efforts directly, Paqui and I can certainly match this tremendous fanbase’s generosity by investing in the future of LSU Athletics through the Tiger Athletic Foundation.”
LSU’s press release notes that the program is currently “heavily engaged” in acquiring new talent as well as retaining players from its 2024 roster.
The transfer portal opened earlier this week and the Tigers have already made multiple offers to portal targets. LSU also signed 23 players from the high school ranks during the Early Signing Period earlier this month.
LSU will be hoping to take a big step forward in 2025 under Kelly. The Tigers went 8-4 in 2024.
