Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers moved to 3-0 on the season on Saturday night, as they defeated Florida 20-10 behind a dominating defensive performance. The Tigers intercepted DJ Lagway five times, with Dashawn Spears returning one of his two interceptions for a touchdown.

As dominant as the defense was, the offense once again didn’t put up the numbers that many had expected this unit to entering this season. After the game, Kelly was asked about the offensive struggles by LSU reporter Michael Cauble, and it led to a heated outburst from the coach.

During an appearance on the SEC Network Monday morning, Kelly addressed the situation and said he apologized to Cauble.

“I have to do a better job of handling those kinds of question,” Brian Kelly said, via TigerDroppings. “I apologized to Michael Cauble, who’s a very good reporter. There is so much emotion after a game like that. I want to defend my players and my team. But I’ll do better.”

Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier entered the season as a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate, but the offense hasn’t been as explosive as expected. The past couple of years, the offense has had to put up a ton of points to be in the game. That isn’t the case, as Nussmeier and the offense just has to make sure they don’t make the big mistake.

There is no doubt that Kelly, Nussmeier and the rest of the offense is looking to put up more points, but the thing that matters the most is getting the win.

LSU is back in action this week against Southeastern Louisiana.
