The LSU Tigers are a program steeped in some of the richest traditions in all of college football, and perhaps the most well-known of these traditions is the honor that comes from wearing the No. 7 jersey for the Tigers.
The No. 7 is special down in Death Valley because it is awarded each season to a Louisiana native who embodies everything it means to be an LSU Tiger and is also a recognized leader on the team.
Last season, it was awarded to junior linebacker Harold Perkins, but his season came to an end in just the first game as he suffered a torn ACL against the UCLA Bruins.
Perkins is back again for the Tigers in 2025, though, and head coach Brian Kelly decided that it was only right that the now redshirt junior don the prestigious number seven once more.
“It just felt right having Harold finish off with seven because he didn’t get a full season with it last year,” Kelly told reporters on Monday afternoon.
There’s certainly not a more deserving choice to wear the number seven jersey for LSU, as Perkins has embodied everything that the honor represents since setting foot on campus as a true freshman back in 2022.
Now, he’ll be looking to finish off his legendary career in Baton Rouge by leading his guys to the College Football Playoff once more, and cementing his legacy as one of the greatest players in program history.
