Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers earned at least a share of the SEC regular-season title on Wednesday night, taking down Mississippi State in Starkville to snap a 3-game road losing streak.
While big man Walker Kessler did his normal work on defense, recording 10 rebounds and 3 blocks, he struggled offensively, scoring only 4 points in the overtime victory.
On Thursday, Pearl discussed Kessler’s injury, which required him to wear a brace on Wednesday. Pearl said Kessler is working through the pain (via 247Sports):
“He got clipped pretty good in the Tennessee game,” Pearl said. “He got fouled — it was a common foul called on the play; he actually got hit twice — it was chippy, at best. So he did suffer an injury to his shoulder.
“He’s got the brace on it and he’s working through it.”
We’ll see how effective Kessler is against South Carolina on Saturday, but this is certainly something to monitor as postseason play looms large.
