Bryan Harsin will have another week to assess the quarterback play this week when Auburn takes on San Jose State.
TJ Finley last week against Mercer was 9-for-14 passing for 112 yards, one touchdown and 2 interceptions. Robby Ashford took over at quarterback midway through the third quarter after Finley’s second interception. Ashford generated 168 total yards.
Harsin on Monday was asked if quarterback usage will be the same this week with Finley and Ashford splitting reps, even if not the same quantity.
“I expect both guys to play. As far as the number of it, how we utilize it, we’re working on that right now. Every opponent is different,” Harsin said.
The way the QBs went into the game was part of the plan.
“We knew that was going to happen,” Harsin said. “Not everybody else did. But we knew that back and forth would happen… and we got a chance to keep Robby in there because we were winning the game.”
It also comes down to getting the best players on the field.
“These guys are all football players. If they’re good enough to play, we should find a role for them,” Harsin said. “I think that just gives guys hope they can go out there and play, including your quarterbacks.”
