Bumper Pool and Arkansas take on Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday. The Razorbacks are 4-3 and are coming off a bye week following a victory at BYU.
The Razorbacks won their 1st 3 games of the season before dropping 3 straight to Texas A&M, Alabama, and Mississippi State. Before the open week, though, they were able to get back on track in Provo against the Cougars. They now turn their attention to a 5-game slate to close the season that starts on the road at Auburn, followed by 3 straight home games against Liberty, LSU, and Ole Miss before closing the season at Missouri.
Pool, part of a program that won 7 games from 2018-2020 before a breakthrough 9-4 record in 2021, knows the last thing his teammates should do at this point is pack things in, despite injuries to some key players.
“Everyone in the SEC…has injuries and whatnot,” the star linebacker said on SEC Radio on Sirius XM, according to 247Sports. “But we’re a program that’s still building and still growing, and just being able to…grind out a few of the wins that we have so far [and] getting guys healthy.”
Pool referenced the Razorbacks’ biggest injury, involving Jalen Catalon. The safety suffered a shoulder injury in the season opener against Cincinnati and was lost for the season.
“Our team continues to fight, continues to not give up, not quit because you get to this point in the season, and you have teams that either want to make a run or they’re ready to throw in the towel,” Pool said. “We have a bunch of guys in here that still have a lot of goals you want to reach and so we’re in a good position and having that bye last week was huge for us.”
