Over the last decade, information regarding head injuries and concussions have come to light, forcing many parents to question the cognitive safety of football. While the dangers are real, the precautions and medical knowledge surrounding the game of football have also significantly stepped up during that time and will only continue to do so in the future.

While many parents are likely to prevent their children from playing football thanks to the threat of concussions, the reining NFL MVP is not among them.

While giving an interview to Zach Baron of GQ recently, former Auburn and Florida quarterback Cam Newton chose instead to highlight all the good the game of football has done for him.

“Baron: What about the parents who won’t let their kids play football anymore? Would you let Chosen play?”

Newton: “Of course. Why wouldn’t they let them play football?”

Baron: Concussions. Brain damage.”

Newton: “But they don’t talk about the joy it brings! Super Bowl Sunday trumps every TV rating known to man.”

“Baron: But that’s the point. I get to sit on my couch and watch you risk physical harm from Von Miller for my own entertainment. It’s great for me. But is it great for you?”

Newton: “There’s no doubt in my mind: Yes.”

Nice to see Cam sticking up for the game that he loves.

If Chosen Newton decides to play his father’s game, it likely won’t be long before you hear his name being called in an SEC stadium a couple decades from now.
