Cam Ward takes jab at SEC defenses, CFP selection committee following latest rankings
Cam Ward appeared on ACC PM on Wednesday and addressed the controversial rankings that were revealed by the College Football Playoff selection committee this week.
Ward, who was named the ACC’s Player of the Year earlier in the day, was critical of the committee’s decision to rank 3-loss Alabama ahead of 10-2 Miami going into conference championship weekend.
“At the end of the day, them boys in that committee, I really doubt if they watch tape or not,” Ward said. “We’re a 10-2 team. I’m not saying Alabama’s not a good team, which they are … We’ve got a top-25 defense, it was actually one of the best defenses in the country. Both sides of the ball, we’re one of the best teams in the country. You talk about an offense who puts points on the board left and right … it’s hard to leave that out.
“We’re playing better defenses, in my opinion, than the SEC.”
Here’s a clip from Ward’s interview on ACC Network:

Ward was excellent this season for the Hurricanes and could be named a Heisman Trophy finalist next week. As for his comment about SEC defenses, it’s understandable Ward would have that opinion after he threw for 385 yards and 3 touchdowns in a blowout win over Florida back in September. The Gators finished the season 9th amongst SEC teams in yards per play allowed.
Ward has not yet announced whether or not he intends to play in Miami’s bowl game.
