Catch of the year? Miami’s CJ Daniels makes absurd TD grab just before halftime vs. Notre Dame

CJ Daniels just changed the game for Miami.

With 12 seconds remaining in the first half, Carson Beck lobbed a ball over the middle of the field toward the end zone. Had it fallen incomplete, Miami likely would have had just 1 more play before settling for a field goal. An interception was also possible, as there were multiple Notre Dame defensive backs lurking in the area.

Instead, Daniels made some magic happen. He snatched Beck’s pass out of the air in-between two Notre Dame defenders and managed to hang on to the ball with one hand as he fell to the ground.

After review, replay officials upheld the call. Miami 14, Notre Dame 7. Here’s a clip:

Daniels transferred to Miami from LSU this offseason. He didn’t catch a touchdown pass for the Tigers in 2024, so this marks his first time finding the end zone since 2023 when he was at Liberty.

It’s a massive momentum shift for the Canes, who get the ball to start the second half as well.

This was Beck’s second touchdown pass of the night. The Georgia transfer also found freshman receiver Malachi Toney for a touchdown on third-and-long early in the second quarter. The Canes are looking to start their season 1-0 with a big win over the Fighting Irish.
