CBS Sports lists 2 current SEC head coaches as ‘realistic’ candidates at Ole Miss
It’s pretty rare to see an active coach being tossed in as a candidate for an open position within the same conference. CBS Sports went a step further, adding two active SEC coaches to the list of ‘realistic’ options at Ole Miss.
According to Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports, Butch Jones and Kevin Sumlin could potentially both be candidates at Ole Miss. Potentially to grab extra buzz, Dodd threw in Les Miles and Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt on the list.
Why either coach would take a step down from their current positions to take the Ole Mis job, that’s before even considering the potential NCAA sanctions that could soon be coming to Oxford, remains a mystery. To play devil’s advocate, each coach could be looking for work if their schools decide to fire them, but then again, would Ole Miss really be interested in hiring a coach that was just dismissed?
Adding these two names to the list are sure to get some attention, so mission accomplished there, but neither seems particularly ‘realistic’ all things considered as we head into the 2017 season.
