If there is ever going to be some craziness with the College Football Playoff field, 2020 is as good of a year as any for that to happen.

Could we see some newcomers in the field of 4 teams this fall? And, if we do, which teams look poised to break into the field for the first time?

CBS Sports analyst Chip Patterson put together a list of 7 teams that could make the Playoff for the first time this fall, and 3 SEC squads made the cut:

  • Florida — No. 1
  • Auburn — No. 3 (tie)
  • Texas A&M — No. 3 (tie)

Obviously, making the Playoff is no easy task, so we’ll see which of these squads gets out of the gate strong in Week 1.
