Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea was recognized by CBS Sports as the top SEC head coach of Week 8, following the Commodores’ impressive performance in the 31-24 win against LSU over the weekend.
Lea’s team delivered one of its most complete outings of the season, earning national recognition from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, who highlighted standout coaching performances across every conference. Lea joined a list that included Minnesota’s P.J. Fleck (Big Ten), Louisville’s Jeff Brohm (ACC), and Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham (Big 12) among others.
The Commodores have quietly started to find their rhythm under Lea, showing noticeable growth on both sides of the ball as the season’s second half gets underway. Known for his defensive background and steady leadership, Lea’s approach has begun translating into tangible results for a Vanderbilt program looking to climb in the SEC standings.
This honor marks another sign of progress for Lea in his fifth season in Nashville, as CBS Sports continues to spotlight the league’s top coaching efforts each week. He also took home SEC Coach of the Year in 2024, after Vanderbilt’s 7-6 campaign and Birmingham Bowl win.
Lea and the Commodores have another epic battle in store against No. 15 Missouri in Week 9.
