The Heisman Trophy winner is so often a quarterback, but that’s not always the case as the award is technically reserved for the most outstanding player in college football each year.
One player who should be in contention is Georgia tight end Brock Bowers, who has put on an exceptional performance against the South Carolina Gamecocks as the bulldogs lead 45-0 at the bottom of the third quarter.
College football analyst Greg McElroy is among those believes Bowers should be in contention for the Heisman Trophy, but sees his position as a potential hindrance.
“If the Heisman wasn’t (basically) a QB Award and actually went to the “Most Outstanding Football Player in America,” Brock Bowers might actually get some consideration,” McElroy tweeted during the game. “But since he plays the wrong position, he probably won’t. Oh well.”
