College Football Playoff executive director Rich Clark said he won’t rule out using artificial intelligence in future Playoff rankings.

Clark was asked if AI could be used in the future for selecting teams.

“AI will never take over, but might be a tool committee members might use,” said Clark on Tuesday.

Clark, who nearly had a 4-decade career in the Air Force, had a lot to say about the proposed idea that would’ve seemed outrageous not too long ago.

“Here’s what I’ll say: AI is a tool and I’ve had to deal with AI in the military. In the military we use AI in war fighting. We use AI to deliver weapon. But what I will say is we don’t take the man out of the loop because war fighting is a human endeavor,” said Clark.

Clark won’t rule out using artificial intelligence in future Playoff rankings, but college football fans shouldn’t stress too much. Clark said future rankings. For now, the human element is what counts and Clark made sure to make that clear in saying that AI will never take over.
