Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly will miss the remainder of Rebels spring practice following surgery for a sports hernia.
According to a report from Ole Miss beat writer Daniel Paulling, Kelly underwent the procedure last week.
Paulling reports that the injury is not expected to keep Kelly out for an extended period of time, and his status for Ole Miss’ season opener in September is not expected to be in question.
For the time being, it leaves the Rebels with just two scholarship quarterbacks to complete its spring workouts.
It could turn into a good opportunity for top-recruit Shea Patterson to get some reps with the Rebels’ first-team offense.
Kelly threw for 4,032 yards and 31 touchdowns last season, and chose to forgo the 2016 NFL Draft to return for his senior season with the Rebels.
