Wednesday has produced a string of coaching hires.

After Bowling Green and Texas State named new head men, Charlotte joined in the fun by targeting Mike Houston to take over its program, according to a tweet from The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman.

Houston has spent the last three seasons at James Madison, and his current team is 9-3 and still alive in the FCS playoffs. The Dukes went 14-1 in Houston’s first two seasons, winning the FCS national championship in 2016 before falling on that same stage a year later.

Before that, Houston coached at Division II Lenoir-Rhyne and fellow FCS program The Citadel. He now takes over for Brad Lambert, who was fired Nov. 18 after six years at Charlotte, which joined FBS in 2015.
