Tough news out of Kansas City Monday, as the Chiefs announced backup quarterback Tyler Bray has suffered a small chip to his shine. The former Tennessee standout was recently elevated to second on Kansas City’s quarterback depth chart behind Alex Smith.

According to Kansas City trainer Rick Burkholder, who spoke to Blair Kerkhoff of the Kansas City Star, Bray’s injury may not be as bad as it initially sounds.

“It sounds much worse than it is,” Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder said. “We’re treating it as a sprain, because it’s just like that. Once his symptoms go away, and those symptoms are a stiff neck, and as a thrower he has to turn his head and get his hands above his head, we think he’s going to be fine.

The trainer could not give a definitive timetable for Bray’s return, but indicated it could be soon.

With Bray on the sidelines for now, another former SEC quarterback will look to move up the depth chart as more reps will be given to former Georgia Bulldog Aaron Murray.
