College football’s 2021 season kicks off with a big opening weekend. The meeting between Clemson and Georgia, two teams sure to be ranked high in the preseason polls, in Charlotte is the headliner of a loaded Week 1 slate.

The big game came up when Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovich visited the “Packer and Durham” show. Radakovich called it a game that doesn’t need any hype from an athletic director.

“This one is just going to be huge, you mentioned all of it. I don’t think you need the athletic director to hype this game,” Radakovich told the show. “It is just on a different level, and we are so honored to be a part of it. We’re looking forward to it. It’s going to be an exciting day up at Bank of America Stadium up in Charlotte.”

Georgia has dominated the series, which has roots as a rivalry clash, 42-18-4. The last meeting was in 2014 when UGA won 45-21 in Athens.

The Sept. 4 meeting will be the first Georgia-Clemson game of the College Football Playoff era. Dabo Swinney’s program is 6-4 in CFP games, winning titles it all in 2016 and 2018. Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs are 1-1 in Playoff games, making the field of four in the 2017 season.
