One of the biggest stories this week for the Clemson Tigers has been the injury status of star senior quarterback Cade Klubnik, who has been nursing an ankle injury he suffered last Saturday during the team’s 41-10 win against Boston College.

Klubnik was limited in practice all week long due to the injury, and was listed as questionable on the Tigers’ Thursday availability report, which cast further doubt on his status for Saturday’s matchup against the Mustangs.

With kickoff now just a few hours away, it appears as if the team has made a decision on Klubnik for the game, with On3 reporting that Clemson will be rolling with backup quarterback Chris Vizzina under center in place of the injured Klubnik.

This will be the redshirt sophomore’s first start ever at the collegiate level after serving as the primary backup for Klubnik in both 2024 and 2025, and seeing action in 12 total games across his time at Clemson thus far.

Vizzina has played in 3 games so far for the Tigers this season, most recently against Boston College last weekend after Klubnik was knocked out of the game, where he completed 1 of his 3 passes for -3 yards and an interception. Now, he’ll be tasked with leading the Tigers’ offense against SMU.
