No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Clemson have virtually cemented their College Football Playoff positions ahead of Sunday’s selection show.
The Tigers thumped Pittsburgh in the ACC Championship game 42-10 behind QB Trevor Lawrence’s two TD passes and RB Travis Etienne’s two rushing TDs.
After seeing Alabama nearly lose to No. 4 Georgia, Clemson may in fact be a better version of Georgia. The Tigers have a better defensive line than the Bulldogs, as UGA’s line wreaked havoc for Tua Tagovailoa and the Tide’s offense. Backup Jalen Hurts had to save the day for the struggling Tide offense.
Earlier Saturday, No. 5 Oklahoma knocked off No. 14 Texas 39-27, and now, the debate turns to No. 6 Ohio State (pending a win over Northwestern), No. 4 Georgia (two-loss SEC Championship loser) and No. 5 Oklahoma.
For now, we wait until the College Football Playoff selection committee makes their final picks. It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see a final four of 1. Alabama, 2. Clemson, 3. Notre Dame and No. 4 Oklahoma.
