College football returned in full force this week, and that includes some blooper plays, including a big one in the South Carolina State-Central Florida game.

On a fourth down and 19 play, Dyson Roberts ran at least 10 yards past the line of scrimmage before he attempted a punt that eventually landed inside the 5-yard line. He immediately regretted it, and was quickly consoled by coaches and teammates.

The broadcasters on ESPN+ were as confused as anyone, and one even said, “If you’re confused watching, so are we.”

And then added, “That’s definitely illegal. It looked like he almost could have picked it up if he just kept running, he had a chance. I think it’s just a case of a young player making a mistake.”

It proved to be an otherwise forgettable moment in a 56-10 victory for UCF. UCF scored 28 unanswered to start the game as it was the Knights’ seventh straight win in home openers.
