The Associated Press Top 25 voters have some big questions to answer regarding Clemson, Ohio State, LSU, Oklahoma and Notre Dame after Week 5.
Clemson’s season looked to be in danger when QB Trevor Lawrence left the game after taking a hard hit. With Kelly Bryant having just left the team, Dabo Swinney’s squad was in a tough spot at quarterback. The Tigers needed a late touchdown to overcome an upset bid from unranked Syracuse.
Will voters be sympathetic of the quarterback situation or will it cause Clemson to fall No. 3?
For some voters, it will be hard to keep Ohio State at No. 4 after the Buckeyes went on the road and beat No. 9 Penn State. It’s a win that seems worthy of a reward, but again, does Clemson deserve to move down?
If Ohio State’s win over No. 9 is deemed worthy of a move to No. 3, then LSU can argue it deserves to move even higher. The Tigers, after all, knocked off No. 8 in Week 1 (Miami) and No. 7 in Week 3 (Auburn).
Notre Dame entered Week 5 with the No. 8 ranking, but will move up to at least No. 7 after beating No. 7 Stanford 38-17. As far as resume goes, it’s a more impressive win than anything from Oklahoma, which enter Week 5 ranked No. 6.
Speaking of Oklahoma, the Sooners won the kind of game we’ve all come to expect from the Big 12: 66-33 over Baylor.
Enjoy sorting that all out, AP voters.
