It’s official.
South Carolina has named redshirt sophomore Connor Mitch the starting quarterback for the season opener against North Carolina. Mitch played in two games as a redshirt freshman and connected on 2-of-6 passes for 19 yards.
Naming Mitch the starter wasn’t a surprise for the Gamecocks. Mitch beat out fellow signal callers Lorenzo Nunez, Michael Scarnecchia and Perry Orth.
South Carolina is set to open the season Sept. 3 against North Carolina in Charlotte.
