We’ve got a mix of good news and bad news when it relates to the upcoming Mississippi State vs. Georgia game as Mike Leach’s team has reportedly been hit with some new positive COVID tests.

The good news is, despite those positive tests limiting Mississippi State’s ability to field a 53-man scholarship team, the Bulldogs are willing to make the trip to Athens to take on Georgia this weekend.

Matt Zenitz of AL.com was the first to report that Mississippi State would be under the 53-man scholarship limit this weekend.

SEC teams are required to take their final COVID tests of the week on Thursday with the results returning on Friday morning.

If you are wondering how Mississippi State can play while being below the minimum threshold of scholarship players, the SEC does not prohibit teams from playing if they go below 53 players. Once that number is reached, teams are allowed to make their own decision whether to play that weekend or not.

So, despite being below the threshold, Mississippi State plans to play Georgia on Saturday between the hedges. This news is also being reported by Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated.

The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. CT kick and will be televised by the SEC Network.
