Football fans everywhere were heartbroken as word spread of Dak Prescott’s gruesome injury.

In the third quarter of the Dallas-New York game, Prescott had picked up a solid gain on the ground when his ankle was visibly injured as he was brought down. The Mississippi State great’s right foot and ankle were caught under the Giants defender, causing the ankle to bend in an unnatural way.

As suspected, Prescott is being checked out at an area hospital.

“Just announced that Dak Prescott has a serious right ankle injury and is being taken to the hospital for treatment and evaluation,” ESPN’s Ed Werder shared on Twitter.

Not long after Werder’s report, ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen shared more information.

“Cowboys’ QB Dak Prescott is undergoing ankle surgery tonight, sources tell (Mortensen) and me,” Schefter tweeted.

SEC fans and NFL fans will be following closely for updates on Prescott.
