Dakereon Joyner has lined up at quarterback and wide receiver during his South Carolina career. With Gamecocks starting QB Luke Doty injured, could it be time for Joyner to play quarterback again?

South Carolina coach Shane Beamer shared that Joyner took snaps at quarterback in the team’s most recent scrimmage. But don’t expect to see Joyner as the team’s primary quarterback.

“He made some fantastic plays at wide receiver today,” Beamer told reporters, per Augusta Stone of The State. “We talk a lot about explosive plays on offense. We had some explosive plays today with DK at receiver. That’s what he is. He’s not a quarterback now, it just gives other teams something they have to prepare for.”

Stone adds that Beamer estimates that Joyner works 97 percent of the time as a wideout. Behind Doty, South Carolina has quarterbacks Jason Brown, Colten Gauthier and Connor Jordan.
