The Florida Gators had an interesting situation play out during their season-opening win against FAU on Saturday.

Andrew Chatfield played every game for the Gators in 2020 and recorded 2.5 sacks and 4.0 tackles for a loss. The redshirt junior appeared during the victory against the Owls but didn’t record any stats.

What’s interesting about it is that Chatfield is currently in the transfer portal, entering it on Aug. 31, according to On3 college football reporter Matt Zenitz. Of course, entering the portal is non-binding, with athletes free to leave if they wish to remain at their current program.

Dan Mullen confirmed the reports of Chatfield being in the portal on Monday, but the Plantation, Fla. product apparently remains a Gator–at least for now.

“(Staying at Florida) would be up to him, I guess, more than us,” Mullen said on Monday, according to Gator Sports. “I mean, there’s nowhere to go right now. So, he’s still here with the team.”

Florida visits USF on Saturday.
