Florida got off to a rough start against No. 1 Alabama on Saturday afternoon in The Swamp, trailing 21-3 in the first quarter.

However, the defense then settled in and, at halftime, the Gators were only down 21-9. So, what did coach Dan Mullen think of the performance from his squad? And, why didn’t we see dynamic backup QB Anthony Richardson on the field at all?

At halftime, Mullen explained it to CBS sideline reporter Jamie Erdahl:

“With Anthony and his injury, we’ve got to be really cautious with him,” he said. “I thought Emory was playing pretty good in the first half, making some good decisions, getting us into the right plays, managing the game, making some good throws. We’ve just got to execute cleaner, you know what I mean? We’ve just got to get more time. There are some opportunities. Guys are open and we’re getting hit. We’ve got to be a little more efficient offensively. We made some early mistakes defensively, giving up some first downs on penalties, but we’ve settled down.”

Will the Gators keep the momentum going in the second half and make this a game? We’ll find out starting in a few minutes on CBS! Things could get wild in Gainesville.
