To the victor go the spoils: Ole Miss beats out Mississippi State to land commitment of Alabama lineman Demarcus Smith

The Egg Bowl rivalry extends well beyond the white lines of the gridiron and just like the matchup that took place on Nov. 28, Ole Mis won this round over Mississippi State.
This time, it wasn’t a game that was on the line but the services of defensive lineman Demarcus Smith of Parker High School in Birmingham, Ala.
On Monday, the Alabama native announced his commitment to Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss program over Mike Leach’s Mississippi State program. Interestingly, this is the second time Smith has committed to Ole Miss, as he first gave his pledge to the Rebels back in August before reopening his recruitment back in October.
With the Early Signing Period just over a week away, expect this commitment to stick for the Birmingham lineman.
The 6-foot-4, 272-pound Smith is currently rated as a three-star prospect, the No. 46 strong-side defensive end in the class of 2021, according to 247Sports Composite rankings, the No. 710 overall player and the No. 30 recruit from Alabama for this cycle.
Following Smith’s commitment, Ole Miss now holds pledges from 15 total prospects for the 2021 recruiting cycle.
