Heisman Trophy winners always spark the interest of college football and NFL fans alike, especially when those guys hit the big-time playing field on Sundays.
Henry had an incredible career at Alabama, rushing for 3,591 yards and 42 touchdowns and winning the 2015 Heisman Trophy. With the help of Henry bowling through defenses, Alabama won the College Football Playoff championship, too.
Henry was drafted in the second round by the Tennessee Titans, and NFL.com media analyst Heath Evans talked up Henry on having an instant splash in Nashville:
“Derrick Henry is a huge man,” Evans said. “When you see a guy who’s a 247 pound man; this joker is huge. Everyone knocks all the carries he had at Alabama. Listen, you talk to any running back — all the great ones: from Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith on down the line, they want touches. Touches give you experience; they improve your vision.
“At Tennessee, I know DeMarco [Murray] is there, but this back [Henry] is special … There’s this thing called body lean, power and transitional speed — he’s got all three of them. I’m tell you, watch out. Big boy is about to get busy.”
The Titans announced Monday that they agreed to terms with Henry, although the contract details were not provided.
