The LSU head coaching job has quickly become the talk of the 2025 college football coaching carousel and rumor mill, with just about every major name in the sport being mentioned as a potential replacement for Brian Kelly down in Baton Rouge.

While most of the attention is being drawn to names like Lane Kiffin and Jon Sumrall, another interesting possibility that has popped up is current Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard.

Fans and media members alike have mentioned the former LSU linebacker as a name to watch as the coaching search continues to unfold, but according to M Live’s Benjamin Raven, Sheppard says he hasn’t been contacted by anybody regarding the job at his alma mater.

“The truth of the matter is nobody has contacted me about anything dealing with a job outside of anything I’m doing right now,” Sheppard said. “And that’s the honest truth.”

Sheppard played with LSU from 2007-2010, and was a member of the 2007 national championship-winning squad, so he understands the standard down in Death Valley better than just about anybody.

He’s also proven himself to be an elite defensive mind at the NFL level, serving in various positions on a defensive staff in Detroit that has finished top-10 in most metrics over the past 3 seasons.
