Will Daisy Mae like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?
We soon might find out after the Bucs selected LSU All-American/noted horse owner Devin White with the No. 5 overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft.
White is the first LSU linebacker taken in the first round since 2013, when Cleveland selected Barkevious Mingo No. 6 overall.
He’s the 6th Tiger to go in the top 10 in the past 9 years.
The only real drama about White’s selection Thursday night in Nashville was whether he was going to borrow a page from Big & Rich and ride Daisy Mae down Broadway en route to the draft stage.

From a football perspective, Thursday night was in the works for years.
Unlike Josh Allen’s rapid rise, White’s trajectory was more traditional, even though it required a position switch. He arrived at LSU as a coveted 4-star running back recruit, changed sides and became an impact player as a freshman. He was named a permanent team captain and MVP as a sophomore and junior and capped his career by winning the Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker.
LSU’s DBs typically garner headlines and fill highlight shows, but White was the ultimate playmaker. LSU credited him with forcing 9 turnovers alone in 2018 — and that doesn’t even include poor throws he forced that his teammates gobbled up for interceptions.
He made sure to credit LSU every step along the way, too.
