DeVonta Smith is set to be living comfortably now that he has signed his rookie contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Smith’s deal comes with a $20.1 million fully guaranteed over four years. A fifth-year option is also part of the deal.
If you think the Heisman Trophy winner has big plans to show off his new wealth, guess again. The former Alabama standout is taking a less flashy approach.
“Just put it in the bank, that’s about it,” Smith said at his most recent media availability.
The Eagles rookie shared that he’s already thinking about his future.
“This is what I’ve been working for, but ultimately I’m not done,” Smith told media members. “I’m not playing this just to get one contract, I expect to get many more contracts coming. But ultimately it just comes down to me working. If I keep working the way I’ve been working and handle my business then that time will come.”
The Philadelphia Inquirer mentions that Smith has told reporters he isn’t “a going-out-type guy.” It sounds like the No. 10 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft is still the hard-working, all-business wideout who made an impression on Jalen Hurts when he first visited Tuscaloosa.
