Welcome back to college football, y’all! This Week 1 slate is something special, so let’s be sure to enjoy all of the SEC football action over the next few days, shall we?
While the college game takes full advantage of the Labor Day Weekend, we’re still a week away from the NFL starting its season.
Every week, our DFS experts — Andrew Olson and Adam Spencer — will provide their favorite DFS plays via Underdog for the weekend’s games. This week, the guys will share their 3 top plays for Week 1 of college football action.

Our Week 1 CFB Picks
Here are our top Underdog plays for Week 1 of the college football season:
Andrew Olson
Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State WR — Higher than 17.5 1Q receiving yards
Texas limited Smith to just 1 catch for 3 yards in the College Football Playoff semifinal. Teams typically script their first offensive series, and Ohio State should have some designed plays to get the ball in Smith’s hands early. The Buckeyes can set the tone if they get Smith going in the 1st quarter.
Le’Veon Moss, Texas A&M RB — Higher than 79.5 rush yards
To UTSA’s credit, it had the American’s top rushing defense last season. But the Roadrunners weren’t facing backs like Moss. Before the injury, Moss posted 65 yards or better in every 2024 outing, and was only held under 80 yards twice. I expect Moss to make a grand return Saturday.
Ryan Williams, Alabama WR — Higher than 72.5 receiving yards
Last season, opponents gashed FSU on the ground, so the pass defense numbers actually looked halfway decent. With Jam Miller out, though, Alabama may count on the passing attack to carry the offense. I don’t think the Seminole secondary is ready for Williams.

Haynes King, Georgia Tech QB — Higher than 39.5 rush yards
After losing Travis Hunter to the NFL, I don’t think Colorado’s defense will be very good this year. Georgia Tech is heading to Boulder for this Friday night showdown, but I expect King and the Yellow Jackets to pull off the win. To do that, King will need to run early and often. I like him to post 40+ yards on the ground.
Julian Sayin, Ohio State QB — Lower than 231.5 pass yards
The Texas defense may have lost Jahdae Barron, but there’s still enough talent in the secondary to stymie the first-time Ohio State starter. I think he throws a pair of interceptions to the Longhorns and comes up just shy of this number. Even if Andrew’s pick for Jeremiah Smith in the first quarter wins, I still like this total going lower for Sayin.
Austin Simmons, Ole Miss QB — Higher than 2.5 pass TDs
I think Simmons will be in the top 10 of the Heisman Trophy voting when all is said and done this year. Ole Miss will get its first-year starter plenty of pass attempts to build his confidence in Week 1 against Georgia State. At least 3 of those passes will lead to touchdowns.
