Douglas High School is currently suffering from the worst nightmare any school can go imagine, as the South Florida school is the latest victim of an active shooter.
As of Wednesday night, the official death toll is up to 17 victims in and around the school. The alleged suspect in the shooting has been taken into custody by the police.
While news of the deaths is horrific, apparently, it could have been much worse if not for assistant football coach Aaron Feis. According to the Miami Herald, and accounts from members of the Douglas High School community on social media, the coach sacrificed himself in order to shield students from gunfire. Feis’ condition is not known at this time.
According to the Miami Herald’s report, Feis has served as a security guard at the school for eight years.

Rather than talk about the coward shooter, meet Aaron Feis, football coach & security guard at Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS. He stepped in front of many students to protect them from bullets. He’s currently battling for his life at the hospital. Let’s pray for him. #hero #Parkland pic.twitter.com/tBU9NezZOj
