Former Florida Gators quarterback Jeff Driskel was named Louisiana Tech’s starting signal caller.

Things didn’t work out at Florida for Driskel, who transferred after Jim McElwain was hired, but he’ll get a second chance at Louisiana Tech under head coach Skip Holtz.

“After spring practice we went through all the numbers and we met with all the players and all the quarterbacks on where they ranked and where they were,” Holtz said Monday, according to The News Star. “Just looking at the numbers from the whole body of work through spring practice, I felt Jeff Driskel gave us the best opportunity as a quarterback. That’s when we looked at him and said he’ll be the starter.”

Driskel joins former Florida quarterbacks Jacoby Brissett (NC State) and Tyler Murphy (Boston College), who recently transferred and became the starter at their respective schools.

Driskel will get a shot at an SEC team on October 17, as Louisiana Tech travels to Mississippi State.
