Ed Orgeron proud of his LSU team after huge upset of Florida in The Swamp
It’s been an incredibly difficult year for LSU following last season’s historic run to the national championship.
While Saturday night’s 37-34 win over Florida in The Swamp isn’t going to erase everything that happened leading up to the game, it should provide Ed Orgeron and his program plenty of momentum to push forward into the Early Signing Period and the season finale against Ole Miss.
LSU managed to win despite having on 54 scholarship players making the trip to Gainesville, star tight end Arik Gilbert’s opt-out, and the program announcing a bowl ban this week.
Adding to the challenge of facing Florida, LSU made the decision to start true freshman QB Max Johnson against the Gators.
Following LSU’s huge upset win, Orgeron was asked to share his thoughts on Johnson following the freshman’s first start of his young career.
“Poise, confidence, grit. I think Max is going to be a championship quarterback,” Orgeron said. “So is TJ. I’m so proud of our quarterbacks. Also, I’m proud of our young football team, we came to beat a great football team in their home in The Swamp.”
Orgeron also commented on LSU’s continued fight.
“So proud. They fought, they gave everything,” the LSU coach said after the game. “We said last night, we are going to give everything that we possibly can to the LSU Tigers. I’m so proud of this team, the players, and the coaching staff.”
Now LSU is 4-5 on the season and is set to face Ole Miss in the final game of the season.
