Former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron is ready to trade retirement for the sidelines again.
After 4 years away from the game, Orgeron, 64, admitted on The Chuck & Bo Show that he’s feeling the urge to coach once more.
“You gotta see the lay of the land,” Orgeron said. “You gotta see what’s best for you, what’s out there. Obviously, being a head coach in college would be my goal, but not necessarily. Be a defensive line coach, assistant head coach in college. I’m not ruling out the NFL, but I really like college. I spent a lot of my years there, and I think that’s where I’m headed.”
Coach O has spent much of his time away from the game helping his sons launch their own coaching careers. His stepson, Tyler Spotts-Orgeron, is currently the tight ends coach and offensive analyst at Tulane, where Orgeron has been a familiar presence at practices.
But now, the former SEC Coach of the Year seems ready to rejoin the grind himself. His last season at LSU came in 2021, when the Tigers finished 6-6. He and the school agreed to part ways following the season. He boasts a career head coaching record of 67-47, including stints at Ole Miss and USC.
