Eddie Jackson thanks Nick Saban after signing high-paying extension with Chicago Bears

Former Alabama standout Eddie Jackson has quickly established himself as one of the top defensive backs in the NFL. The Chicago Bears recently signed Jackson to a new four-year, $58.4 million deal with $33 million guaranteed. Jackson is the first member of the 2017 NFL Draft class to receive a second deal after signing an initial rookie contract.
On a recent conference call with media members, Jackson thanked his former college coach.
“I’ve got to thank Coach Saban,” Jackson said, per the team website. “He taught us how to deal with adversity, overcoming those obstacles, things and different challenges in your life that you feel like want to set you back and stop you from getting to where you need to be. Just having that mindset installed has always worked — always having that chip on my shoulder and just continue to get better and be the best version of me I can be.”
“Underdog success story” is becoming the theme of Jackson’s career. He was famously one of the lower-rated recruits in Alabama’s 2013 signing class. In his final season at UA, Jackson broke his left leg on Oct. 22, 2016. The injury caused him to fall in the draft all the way to the fourth round. Not many people would have predicted a fourth-rounder would be the first draftee to get a big payday.
