EJ Jarvis, a forward with the Florida men’s basketball team, has decided to leave the team and college basketball altogether.
The move comes just weeks before the Gators’ season opener against Loyola (Md.). Jarvis announced the decision on his Instagram account on Thursday.
“Since the age of 4, I have been playing basketball. And for the last 19 years, it has played a huge role in shaping me into the man I am today — something I will forever be grateful for,” Jarvis wrote. “At this point in my career, I feel it would be best to pursue other opportunities in life. So with that being said, I have made the difficult decision to step away from the game of basketball.”
Jarvis was an offseason acquisition for Todd Golden and the Gators’ staff, transferring from Yale. Golden had previously stated that Jarvis was taking a personal leave of absence with the timetable for his return unknown.
Originally from Washington, D.C., Jarvis signed with Yale out of high school, graduating in 2023. He played in 30 games with 22 starts in 2022-23, averaging 11.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
“Rest assured that all is well and I am excited for whatever journey lies ahead — more to come!” Jarvis wrote.
