Eli Drinkwitz and Missouri are trying to focus on the middle portion of the game, before and after halftime, as a point of emphasis, and the Tigers have even given it a nickname.
“That’s why we’ve nicknamed it the Swing 8. … It’s a real reference point for winning and losing football games. … It’s definitely something we try to emphasize,” he said on the SEC coaches media teleconference.
Missouri has missed one of its top running backs because of injury, but that’s expected to change this week.
“Elijah Young has participated in practice all week,” Drinkwitz said. “We look forward to getting him back in the game.”
Despite Vanderbilt’s showing at Georgia last week, Drinkwitz is still impressed with the Commodores on defense.
“They have 8 returning starters on the defensive side of the ball,” he said. “They play very multiple. … It’s a real challenge to lock them into one particular scheme. … It’s a challenge for us, especially for our group, to execute at a high enough level to sustain success.”
