Tuesday evening brought the news: ESPN is set to acquire the NFL Network along with other media properties operated by the NFL, including the much-loved NFL RedZone.
That deal could have significant implications for college football fans. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell teased a college football version of ‘RedZone’ could be coming now that ESPN owns the property.
“ESPN purchased the RedZone name and they will be able to utilize that for other sports, college football and other things,” Goodell said. “I think that could be an exciting thing for our fans also to see a RedZone, maybe in college football or other sports. That’s something that they now own and have the ability to do that.”
Here’s a clip from Goodell’s interview on ESPN:
With control over the RedZone brand, they can now apply this successful formula to other sports, including college football. Imagine tuning into a dedicated College Football RedZone on Saturdays—how epic would that be?
So far, ESPN has not publicly commented on the potential of a ‘RedZone’ product for college football or any other sport. However, it remains possible that an announcement could be made in the near future.
The 2025 college football season will begin with Week 0 action in just over 2 weeks.
