ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) has updated its rankings following Week 3 of the college football season. After a wild Saturday in the SEC, there are some notable changes to the FPI’s rankings.
The formula previously kept Alabama at No. 1 due to its use of last season’s stats, but has finally dropped the Crimson Tide 3 spots. Georgia is the highest-ranked SEC team, but not No. 1 overall, as others have jumped ahead of the Bulldogs. We’ll find out Sunday afternoon if the Coaches and Associated Press Top 25 voters feel the same way.
LSU moved up 4 spots, ahead of a Florida State team that defeated the Tigers by 21 points but only escaped with a 2-point win against Boston College. Tennessee and Florida both moved after UF’s upset win on Saturday night, but the Vols are still above the Gators in the FPI rankings.
