ESPN’s Football Power Index must be concerned about LSU’s defense. That’s the only thing we can figure out after Week 12.

The Ole Miss Rebels racked up 614 total yards, including 402 on the ground, in the 58-37 loss to the Tigers. ESPN’s FPI has LSU ranked fourth behind Ohio State, Clemson and one-loss Alabama after Week 12, a team it beat last week.

ESPN describes the FPI as follows:

The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily.

Joining Alabama and LSU in the top five is one-loss Georgia, who has every goal still in front of it. The Bulldogs took care of business Saturday 21-14 over a good Auburn team on the road. Georgia is the least sexy team in the Playoff conversation, but the impressive running game and stingy defense have the Bulldogs in the top four (in the Playoff rankings).

Florida is ranked ninth this week after the win over Mizzou, and Auburn fell to No. 11 following the loss to Georgia. Texas A&M was ranked No. 15 to round out the top 25 with respect to the SEC.

Here’s ESPN’s FPI’s updated top 25 after Week 12:

1. Ohio State
2. Clemson
3. Alabama
4. LSU
5. Georgia
6. Penn State
7. Oregon
